Change the tire yourself

On firm, level ground a tire change takes 15–20 minutes.

⚠️ Safety first

Never get under a car held up only by a jack. If you're on a highway shoulder or the ground is soft or sloped, don't attempt it — request a tire change instead.

  1. 1Pull onto firm, level ground away from traffic and switch on hazard lights.
  2. 2Apply the parking brake and place a wheel chock (or a rock) on the opposite tire.
  3. 3Loosen the lug nuts a quarter turn BEFORE lifting the car — don't remove them yet.
  4. 4Position the jack under the reinforced jack point nearest the flat and raise until the tire is just off the ground.
  5. 5Remove the lug nuts and pull off the flat.
  6. 6Mount the spare, hand-tighten the lug nuts, then lower the car.
  7. 7Tighten the lug nuts fully in a star/criss-cross pattern.
  8. 8If it's a donut spare, keep under 50 mph and get a full tire fitted soon.

No spare — get a tow

Without a spare, the safe move is a tow to a tire shop where they can fit a new tire.

⚠️ Safety first

Driving on a flat ruins the rim and can cause a loss of control. Stop and request a tow.

  1. 1Don't drive on a fully flat tire — it can destroy the wheel and is dangerous.
  2. 2Pull off the road, switch on hazards, and request a tow.
  3. 3We'll take you to the nearest tire shop or your preferred destination.
